It is cu
stomary in the Methodist church for minister’s to visit one another’s pulpits on the Sunday after Synod. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to enjoy the diversity in our District. I’m going to be preaching in Gugulethu. The service starts at 10:00 and I’ve been asked to try and finish before 13:00! In our morning services at DMC we welcome Rev. Lynette Peterson from Milnerton Methodist. Lynette retires at the end of this year (we say she “superannuates” in Methodist terminology) after 25 years as an ordained minister. However, as you will soon see, the Spirit has kept her enthusiastic, lively and joyful.
Talking of the Spirit, today also happens to be Trinity Sunday. Our songs, prayers and scriptures are chosen to lead us into the glorious mystery of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. At the heart of the mysterious Trinity is the truth that God is relational; existing in a divine community of love. The Trinity is Holy not because God is inaccessible but because God is radically, entirely and sacrificially committed to drawing all people into the family of God (Jn. 3:16). May our worship today awe us with a new vision of God, expose the reality of our sin, cleanse us of wrongdoing and inspire us to respond to God’s call with the words “Here I am, send me” (Isaiah 6:1-8).
