The high-point of our Annual Society Meeting on Tuesday was the appointment of seven new Society Stewards: Isaac Adom-Aboagye, Andrew Boake, Glenn Bradshaw, Lauren Fick, Val Kemp, Roy Lureman and Paige Tremlett. They were each (except for Isaac who is currently in Ghana) given the opportunity to introduce themselves to the meeting. Through the wonderful diversity of gifts and personalities, a common theme emerged – they each have a sincere desire to serve God and a deep love of God’s people at DMC. It is significant that five of our Stewards are relatively new to DMC. I believe they will bring a fresh perspective and enthusiasm. Also encouraging is that, for the first time in a long while, we have a “young” Steward, Paige, who grew up in the family of DMC and was confirmed here. I trust that the appointment of our new stewards is a sign of God doing a new thing in our midst.
If the meeting had a “high-point” it also had a “low-point” as members shared a deep longing for rejuvenation in our common life and worship together. Such “new-life” begins with a touch from the Lord and that touch, friends, is at the heart of our worship on the 21 February: Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” (Lk. 5:13).
