Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God (Col 3:1).
Last week (in the morning services) we heard the call to live “rooted” in Christ (Col 2:6-7). A sign of being rooted in Christ is a life “overflowing with thankfulness”. Abounding in thanksgiving is also the “route” to staying rooted. Out gratitude is rooted in the knowledge that we have enough because we have been “given fullness in Christ” (2:10). God has counted us worthy enough to save! We are “God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved” (3:12).
But have we counted Jesus worthy enough? What do we value above all else? When the Holy Spirit audits how we spend our time and money what is revealed? Jesus once said: “where your treasure is there your heart will also be” (Lk. 12:34). In today’s Gospel lesson Jesus paints the tragic picture of a man who undervalued his own soul. He built up treasures for himself but was not rich toward God (12:13-21).
Friends, let us set our hearts on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Then whatever we do, words or deeds, will be done in the name of Jesus (Col. 3:17).
