“I waited and waited and waited for God
At last he looked; finally he listened.” (Ps. 40 :1, The Message).
We light our candle this on Sunday to the words of Psalm 40. The psalmist waited and waited and waited. Waiting is the universal experience of prayer; the Psalmist frequently complains, “How long, Lord?”
I recently read the story of a South African film crew who sought to film the extremely rare “Caucasian Leopard” in Azerbaijan. They waited and waited: expectant, vigilant, always on the look out. Even when they slept “camera traps” were armed.
Finally, after nearly two years and on the verge of giving up, a camera trap was triggered: a leopard! A leopard with cubs! Now they are singing for joy.
That’s how the Palmist waited – always on the lookout. Finally God answered and “put a new song in [his] mouth” (Ps 40:3).
What are you waiting for? What are you seeking? Take heart, God has a new song to teach you!

PS. I waited a long time for Furlough (9 years, it was necessary to delay Furlough by 2 years). I am deeply grateful to the Methodist Church of Southern Africa and to DMC for giving me this time of renewal. It is good to be back with a “new song” to sing.
