What a week! Politics in our nation is certainly never boring. Mr. Zuma finally resigned and Cyril Ramaphosa has been sworn in as President. The people of faith feel as if God is leading us out of captivity as God did for the slaves in Egypt!
Talking of the Exodus and Moses- Our theme this Lent is “Friends: Growing in friendship with God as we learn from God’s famous friends“. We start today with Moses because “the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend” (Ex. 33:11).
Trevor Hudson, in his book “Friendship with God”, writes: “40 years of pastoral ministry has shown me that there is a friendship shaped hole in our lives. We have been created for intimacy, connection and relationship. That is our deepest desire, hidden beneath all the others.” Our friendships with other people are vital and to be treasured. But it is only friendship with God that can satisfy the loneliness of our souls.
Jesus’s life, death and resurrection has opened the way for us to enjoy friendship with God. He says to his followers: “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you” (Jn. 15:15).
