He …opened the doors of heaven;
he rained down on them manna to eat (Ps 78:23b–24b).
Those of us who enjoyed the privilege of worship and fellowship at DMC before Lockdown feel “malnourished”. We are missing what our souls need to thrive. We empathise more easily with those who, even before lockdown, were unable to meet with us. Given that we are now on “Level 1” I’m sure many of you are asking “when we will reopen the Sanctuary?”. So, here is an update:
Each Circuit has appointed a COVID 19 Team. These teams will guide societies in the protocols required and recommend to the Synod that a society building be opened. This team will need to assess and approve DMC’s plan before we can reopen. Synod ministers will attend training via Zoom on Saturday (19 September) to equip us for the challenges involved in reopening.
So, although we cannot yet give you a definitive date, we can say that our reunion is on the horizon. Please pray that God will give us wisdom and creativity so that we may reopen safely, responsibly and to God’s glory!
Sunday’s Old Testament (Ex. 16:2-15) lesson guides our prayers: God’s people must learn a new “language” and a new way to live. Grumbling and murmuring is replaced by gratitude and trust. We put away greed, seeking only what is needed. We rest on the Sabbath. When the Sanctuary doors reopen may they welcome worshipers whose hearts are reopening to God’s amazing grace!
