Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footing set or who laid its cornerstone? (Job 38:4)

A blessed 2021 to you all! Pairing “blessed” and 2021 may seem strange given how the year started. However, recall the “Beatitudes” (Mt. 5:1-12); in Jesus’ ministry the Kingdom of Heaven brings blessing and healing in even the most disheartening situations.

In her Pastoral Letter to Ministers our Presiding Bishop, Rev. Purity Malinga writes:

This is a time for concerted prayer for God’s intervention! This is the time when people of faith practice faith; which is ‘confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see’. It might not be clear at the moment, but the hand of God is at work! As the present season calls us, let us listen in prayer, watch in prayer and anticipate in prayer, the manifestation of the divine intervention in the crisis

Reminding us of how God answered Job out of the storm (quoted above) she says “Out of this storm [the storm of pandemic] our all-knowing God speaks and will speak life and healing to this world whose foundation was laid by God! Ours is to keep faith and hope alive!”

What a blessed vocation! Even as God blesses us may we be a blessing to this hurting world.

God Bless,
Sean.
