Transfiguration Sunday
The Sunday before Lent is “Transfiguration” Sunday. We read about Jesus taking Peter, James and John up a high mountain. There he becomes “transfigured”; his clothes become dazzling white, and Elijah and Moses appear with him (Mark 9:2-9)
Sunday Worship has been described is a “mini transfiguration” moment. We listen to the prophets (Elijah) and the Law (Moses). We are amazed by Jesus. If we have a profound experience God’s of transcendence, we, like Peter, don’t want it to end. But, as with the Disciples, we too must leave the mountain top, take up the cross and follow Jesus into the valley of everyday life (see 9:9ff).
Maybe, in the past, I would not be so bold as to describe our ordinary Sunday gatherings as “mini transfigurations”! But we have not worshiped together in person for so long maybe we realise how privileged we once were? Maybe absence has made the heart grow fonder? Maybe faith has been refined and we wait expectantly?
Here is good news: we meet again, in person, from Ash Wednesday (see the notices). Our first Sunday service is 21 February (08h00 and 09h30). We also worship every Wednesday morning at 09h00. Numbers are limited to 50 per service so we’ll have a booking system in place (we’ll keep you informed as to how). Let us gather with grateful, warm, expectant hearts.
