In the Secret Place
Do you know, really know, how much God loves you? In
that secret place, where you lie awake, staring at the
ceiling. Where you’re at the end of your rope, hanging
on for dear life. In that place of secrets that you tell no
one. In that place where you know you’re out of your
depth, and you’re sure you’re about to be found out. In
that place, has the amazing, deep, life-giving grace and
love of our Lord found you with absolute understanding
and acceptance, helped you up with no judgement,
and walked with you, while giving you the strength and
provision to recover?
In our reading today, Ephesians 3:14-21, Paul prays on his
knees that God would strengthen us in our inner being
from His glorious riches, and that by that, we would be
filled to the brim, rooted in His love, with Him doing more
in us than we could ever ask for or imagine. Yes Lord,
we’re in a tough place now – we need you to do that for
us!
May we today reflect on what we have seen God do in
our lives, and know He will do it again. May we begin to
grasp how wide His love is – covering everything we can
encounter, how low it is – finding us wherever we are,
how deep it is – meeting us even in our most secret places,
and how high it is – taking us to heights we don’t at all
deserve.
The words of a beautiful old song called He Brought Me
Out come to mind:
He brought me out of the miry clay
He set my feet on the Rock to stay
He puts a song in my soul today
A song of praise, Hallelujah!
