MINISTER’S NOTE 31 OCTOBER 2021
As we celebrate All Saints Day today, this day offers
a wonderful opportunity to thank God for those
people whose lives have honoured God and have
made a difference to us. It is also important to remember
that the biblical sense of “saint” includes all
of God’s people, not just those who have excelled
in discipleship. In the opening verse of his letter to
the Ephesians, Paul addresses the letter’s recipients
as the “saints” or “God’s holy people”.
If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ, you are a
saint. This does not necessarily say anything about
your worthiness to receive this title. You are a saint
because God has set you apart so that you might
participate in his redeeming work in the world. As a
saint, you have been joined to the family of all
saints, including those who live around the world
and those who have departed.
Therefore, on All Saints Day, it is a perfect time to
remember that God has made you special for God
and God’s purposes, and that God has joined you
into the eternal, worldwide fellowship of all the
saints. It is also a good day to take seriously the fact
that God wants to make God-self known in this
world through you as a member of the family of all
saints.
May the memories of those who have nurtured you
in your faith bring you joy as we celebrate the
saints.
