MINISTER’S NOTE 6 MARCH 2022
On Ash Wednesday we started our
journey of the season of Lent, a
season that is both rich and scary.
Its richness comes from the invitation
to deeper intentional living,
inviting us to dig deep into our
faith practices and determine
whether we are on the right path
to becoming disciples of Jesus Christ. The scary part
comes when we lay our whole lives alongside the
life of Christ and see how we measure up as imitators
of Christ. It takes diligence and discipline and a
whole lot of grace to see ourselves as we truly are.
It is a journey we cannot take on our own. It therefore
becomes essential that we contextualise our
faith. The context of our faith is that of God’s abundant
and expansive grace.
Whatever work we do this Lent to grow in discipleship,
may we remember that we do it in response to
God’s grace. Even in the deserted places of our
lives where there is struggle, hardship and grief,
God’s grace overflows in abundance because
God is with us even in the deserted spaces of our
lives. Lent invites us to our own wilderness journey as
Jesus had his own wilderness journey. May we take
that journey knowing that God’s promises are with
us. May we trust fully that we belong to God and
increase our capacity to receive and give grace.
