MINISTER’S NOTE 20 MARCH 2022
Lent is one of those seasons that challenge us to
evaluate our sense of worthiness. This is not surprising
because our sense of worthiness and value as
human beings is at the core of our very selves. It
influences the way we feel about ourselves, the
thoughts we have about life and the choices we
make. Society often measures worthiness by
achievements, wealth, status and heredity. We are
often influenced by the messages we receive from
around us about ourselves and we often tend to
internalize them. The danger of these measuring
sticks becomes visible when our circumstances
change, as they can lead to an identity crisis.
When you know who you are and you’re pleased
with the person you’ve become, you’ll maintain a
sense of peace throughout life’s inevitable ups and
downs. You’ll behave according to your values,
instead of chasing the things that will temporarily
boost your self-worth. Counter-cultural ways of understanding
our worthiness are based on who God
created you to be and what God sees in you as
worthy. You are inherently worthy because of the
relationship you have with Jesus. This is something
worth reminding ourselves of in order to live an expansive
life.
Today we are invited to unpack the source of our
worth. Those of us living in dryness are invited to be
nourished and tended to so that we grow together
into our purpose whilst others provide nurture in solidarity,
trusting that intentional care will lead to new
life for all.
Every blessing,
Vuyelwa.
