MINISTER’S NOTE 12 JUNE 2022
In the past two months we have celebrated some
of the important events in the life of our faith. The
Easter season invited us to be in relationship with
Jesus. It also awakened us to a way of living, loving,
and relating. Last week we celebrated Pentecost,
the coming of the Holy Spirit, the gift of power and
the indwelling of God in and amongst us. These celebrations
help us understand that God is revealed
to us as a Trinity, three persons who are who they
are because of how they love one another.
As we celebrate Trinity Sunday today, we remember
that the Trinity offers us a precious gift of relationship,
a grounded connection with God, self,
others, and the world. We are all together in a web
of mutual interdependence, and we are invited to
be like the Trinity, living in absolute relatedness.
In one of his writings, Henri Nouwen says: “Within the
circle of the Holy Trinity, all true knowledge descends
into the heart. Prayer takes place where
heart speaks to heart, that is, where the heart of
God is united with the heart that prays. Thus, knowing
God becomes loving God, just as being known
by God is being loved by God.”
This understanding offers us a way to keep our
hearts centred in God while living in the midst of a
broken world. As we contemplate the mystery of
God, may we always remember that it is through
love that we come to know God. It is in God’s nature
to love and to reach out to all.
