MINISTER’S NOTE 28 AUGUST 2022
What a privilege it is to be God’s image-bearer. As
God’s image-bearers we are made to flourish with
our Creator and one another, work as God does, to
provide, create order, bring beauty, release potential
and to reflect God’s presence, identity, and authority
in all the world.
As God is inherently relational, so as images of a
relational God we are inherently relational. God
invites us to work in relationship with God and one
another. Our relationships with God and with one
another are not incidental to work, they are essential.
I believe, work serves as a place of deep and
meaningful relationships. Many people form their
closest relationships when some kind of work,
whether paid or not, provides a common purpose
and goal. In turn, working relationships make it possible
to create the vast, complex range of goods
and services beyond the capacity of any individual
to produce.
As co-workers, no one is inferior to the other, nor is
one’s work less important. Whilst there are various
forms of inequality in our world, gender inequality
comes to mind this women’s month. Genesis 1
verse 27 reminds us that: “In the image of God he
created them; male and female he created them.”
This makes no distinction of priority or dominance.
Therefore, domination of women by men, or vice
versa, is not in accordance with God’s good creation.
As the women’s month comes to a close, may
each new day going forward be an opportunity for
women and men to work together in partnership for
a world of possibilities for all.
Every blessing,
Vuyelwa.
