MINISTER’S NOTE 4 SEPTEMBER 2022
This month we pause to listen to Jesus as he gives us
an understanding of who we are and how we are
to live life today as his disciples. There is more to discipleship
than simply being selective about what
we receive from what Jesus offers, taking as much
as we like, and leaving behind what does not appeal
to us. Jesus calls us to a life of discipleship, that
we be like him, fully alive and be a countercultural
community.
What has shaped Jesus’ life and ministry is what is to
shape our lives. Jesus has given us an example to
give priority to our relationship with God, rather
than with created beings and material things. Nothing
is more important because it is this relationship
that shapes, defines, determines and characterises
all our other relationships, and all other aspects of
our lives, who we are, what we say and what we
do.
We often live compartmentalised lives where our
work life, family life, social media life and church life
are different. This compartmentalisation is one of
the symptoms of a consumer-oriented world. Living
like Jesus is ultimately what unifies our life. It means
we are to be authentic, be the same person with
the same values at all times, regardless of where
we are, what we are doing and who we are with.
Jesus invites us to establish new priorities and set
aside our preferences in favour of our love for God
and obedience to God. May God grant us the
grace to choose life.
Every blessing,
Vuyelwa.
