MINISTER’S NOTE 16 OCTOBER 2022
The message of the sacred writings we find in the
Bible, is foundational to our faith. As a result, we
read these words over and over, and some are
probably wondering what the point is. The primary
purpose of Scripture is to reveal God to us. But what
is the point of that revelation if we do nothing with
it? Scripture can work on us, equip us, and change
us to be all we can be for the glory of God, if we let
it.
However, I wonder whether you struggle as I do
with saying the words: “This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God”, after reading some passages of
scripture, as they portray the God we know to be
love, as a cruel and angry God who is capable of
genocide? I believe John’s introduction of Jesus as
he calls him the Word, is of great help in this regard.
The written Word reveals to us God who reveals self
through God’s Son, Jesus Christ, the Word.
I hear this as an invitation to step into the story of
God and see yourself in the story, and hear God
speaking to you through the scriptures, where you
are at. Scriptures are God’s story with God’s people,
and they are the story of the church.
We are therefore invited to encounter the Living
Word who conveys to us wonderful words of life.
May this encounter lead to a life that is filled with
the breath of God and is lived in remembrance of
Christ.
Blessings,
Vuyelwa.
