Minister’s Note – 6 August 2023
Many people operate out of a scarcity mindset. We often
see the huge gap between the vast need at hand and
the limitations of our own resources. Sometimes we express
very real feelings of inadequacy, look down at what
we have and determine that it’s not enough.
Jesus’ miracle of feeding more than 5000 people with
two fish and five loaves of bread encourages us to get
away from small thinking and instead consider that what
we have could be more than enough. God is entrusting
us to be a part of the miracles God is doing each and
every day. Answering this call means looking at what we
have and considering what it is that we might be able to
share with the world. God has given us countless gifts that
need to be shared. We have more gifts and skills and
abilities than we realize. Even if all we can see is two fish
and five little loaves of bread, God sees something bigger,
and God can do big things even with the smallest
gifts. It’s about surrendering whatever we have to Christ,
letting him take it, bless it, break it, and give it back to us
to share with others.
As disciples, we continue to go to Jesus with the problems
of our lives and our world, and Jesus responds by engaging
us and working through us to make incredible things
possible. Share what you have with God, with each other,
and with the world, and watch as everyone feasts out of
Christ’s abundance.
