RIGHTEOUSNESS & MERCY
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this
house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
(Luke 19: 9-10).
The story of Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10) reminds us of the incredible power of God’s
mercy and the radical transformation it brings. This encounter
speaks to all of us. Some may find themselves
striving for righteousness, trying to live uprightly but feeling
unseen or unworthy. Others may feel weighed down by
past choices, wondering if redemption is possible. The
good news is that God meets us wherever we are –
whether on the heights of striving or in the depths of failure.
His righteousness calls us to transformation, and His
mercy makes it possible.
Just as Jesus entered Zacchaeus’s house, He desires to
dwell in our lives, bringing renewal, healing, and purpose.
No one is too lost, and no one is too righteous to need His
grace. When we open our hearts, like Zacchaeus, we are
welcomed into the joy of salvation.
May we live in the tension of righteousness and mercy –
seeking justice but never withholding grace. May we, like
Zacchaeus, respond with generosity, humility, and a heart
turned toward God.
