Minister’s Note 8 June 2025
PENTECOST SUNDAY
As we celebrate Pentecost, we are invited to remember
that we are not alone. The same Spirit that filled the first
disciples with boldness, understanding, and unity continues
to move in our midst today. As we gather to celebrate
baptism and walk in prayer for our church’s renewal,
we are reminded that Jesus promised: “Whoever believes
in me will do the works I do – and even greater.”
(John 14:12)
This is not a call to grandiosity but to faithfulness. The
“greater things” Jesus speaks of happen when we allow
the Holy Spirit to work through us in love, courage, service,
and truth. This is how we become an alternative
community – a people formed not by fear or conformity,
but by grace and purpose.
Today, as we welcome new life through baptism and
step forward in prayer, let us do so with expectancy. The
Spirit of God is not confined to the pages of Scripture or
the memories of the early church. The Spirit is alive, empowering
us here and now – to heal, to reconcile, to imagine,
and to serve.
May our hearts burn with the same fire that came at Pentecost.
May our church rise with new vision. And may
each of us hear the Spirit’s whisper: “You are empowered
to do greater things – in Christ’s name, for the glory of
God.”
