MINISTER’S NOTE 22 JUNE 2025
As I sat with this week’s Gospel from Luke 8:26-39,
I found myself both moved and unsettled. It’s
a story of profound healing. But what puzzles me
is the reaction of the neighbours. They are not
overjoyed. They are so afraid that they ask Jesus
to leave. And I wonder – why?
The uncomfortable truth is that healing often brings disruption.
It shakes the ground beneath what we’ve
learned to manage, even if what we’ve managed is brokenness.
It challenges what we’ve come to accept as
“normal.” Sometimes, healing means change we didn’t
prepare for.
I wonder how often we hold back from the healing God
offers, not because we don’t want it, but because we’re
not sure what it will ask of us. What comforts me is Jesus’
compassion. He doesn’t shame the people. He doesn’t
force himself in. But he does leave behind a witness, the
healed man, sent back to his community with a story to
tell: “Look what God has done for me.”
This week, I invite you to reflect with me: Where am I
afraid of healing? What freedom might I be resisting?
What would it look like to live my story of grace, even in
the very places that once knew my pain?
May you find courage to welcome the healing Christ
offers, even when it comes in unexpected ways. And
may you know – you are deeply loved, held, and never
alone on the journey.
