What do you want me to do Lord?
The prophet Micah is quite clear on what the Lord requires
of us: three demands, none of which are easy. 1)
Act justly – Do the right thing, even in the face of opposition,
even when others are doing the wrong thing. 2)
Love mercy – Love and forgive people, even when
they’re doing things which are hard to forgive. 3) Walk
humbly – God is in control, and you’re not; some things
you’ll understand, others you just won’t. How Lord, do I
do these things in the world I’m seeing and experiencing?
The world is a tough place at the moment. Images of
children starving to death in Gaza while lorries full of food
wait to be let in, while the world leaders play power
games, sear on my conscience. What do you want me
to do Lord? How should I stand up for what’s right?
We all have people who have hurt us and the people we
care about. Sometimes, we need to draw boundaries –
so far and no further, not again. But our Lord says we
should love showing people mercy – beyond what we
think they deserve. What do you want me to do Lord?
Should I just forgive all those that hurt me, even if they will
just do it again?
Join us on Sunday as we consider these things? There is
good news. Our Lord does know what we don’t. He does
have the whole world in His hands. So, we don’t have to
stand up for justice, or decide who to love, on our own.
Pouring love generously over us, He wants us to pour that
love generously into the world that needs it so. And to
listen to his voice and hold His hand as we do it together.
