MINISTER’S NOTE 30 NOVEMBER 20252
Dear Friends,
Today we step into a brand-new Church year, and we begin it
not with fireworks or resolutions, but with something far more
beautiful: Advent. Advent is the season of holy beginnings,
where God invites us to slow down and open our hearts to the
promise that Christ is coming, not just in Bethlehem long ago, but
in our lives, our homes, our community, and our world today.
This morning feels especially joyful as our worship is woven together
with carols and the Nativity Play. There is something wonderfully
grounding about watching the story of Jesus’ birth
through the eyes of our children. It reminds us that the story of
Emmanuel is not meant to be complicated. It is simple, wondrous,
and full of hope.
Advent is the journey from promise to presence. Long before
angels sang, God spoke through the prophets – of light in darkness,
peace in turmoil, joy for the weary, and a Saviour for all.
Today, the whispered promise has become our reality – God is
here with us.
As we gather this morning, I encourage you to enter Advent with
openness and with joy. Whatever the past year has held – its
challenges, losses, uncertainties, or joys, Advent offers us a fresh
start. A new light kindling in the darkness.
How fitting that on this first Sunday we light the Candle of Hope,
expressing our trust that God is present even when life feels
heavy, that God is working even when we cannot yet see it, the
quiet flame that refuses to be extinguished, and that God’s love
is already making a way.
As we sing our carols today, may the familiar words wrap around
us like a warm blanket. Let the poetry of the music carry us into
the mystery and wonder of God choosing to come near. And as
our children bring the Nativity story to life, may we rediscover the
joy of believing that God still comes into ordinary places, ordinary
lives, and ordinary moments, transforming them with extraordinary
grace.
May Christ meet you gently, surprise you with joy, strengthen you
with hope, and lead you ever deeper into His peace.
