MINISTER’S NOTE 10 MAY 2026
Today we gather in the gentle space between presence
and absence, as we prepare to celebrate the Ascension
of Jesus. In John 14, Jesus knows that his disciples are anxious
about what is coming. He speaks tenderly into their
uncertainty: “I will not leave you orphaned.” It is a promise
that still reaches us today.
We all know something about the fear of being left,
whether through loss, distance, or the quiet moments
when life feels uncertain. On Mother’s Day, those feelings
can be close to the surface. For some, it is a day of gratitude
and love; for others, it carries grief, longing, or complicated
memories. To all who nurture, care, guide, and
love in ways seen and unseen, we honour you today.
May you know deep appreciation and grace. To those
for whom this day is tender, may you experience God’s
gentle comfort.
Into all of this, Jesus offers a steady assurance: you are
not alone. His love does not withdraw. It stays. This love is
not distant or abstract. It becomes real in relationship.
When Jesus says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments,”
He extends an invitation, because love
shapes how we live. Our response to Christ grows out of
being loved first and becomes visible in nurturing relationships.
May we always remember that we are held in a love that
remains, a love that accompanies us, forms us, and gently
leads us forward.
