As I write, the fiery flowers of a Coral Tree[1] are dancing in the morning sun. It’s a “burning bush”, reminding me of how God called Moses. Jesus is calling us now, today, to “take up our cross and follow” (Mk. 8:34). We’re inviting you to follow Jesus in a simple, specific way. First though, a small diversion:
James (3:1) says: “not many should presume to become teachers” because their words have such “leverage”. James is referring to the church but the principle applies across society. A teacher’s “spark” can set a class “on fire for learning” or have them burning down the school! Sadly, in South Africa, only 56% of 13 year olds are literate[2]. You can help change that! Equal Education, a movement campaigning for better schools and equality in education, need our help to conduct a “Social Audit” of under-resourced schools in our area. Speaking of teaching and call, fifteen remarkable young people (many of whom have been discipled at DMC since “Jam Club”) will be confirmed at the Evening Worship Service on the 13 September. Thank you to all our Mentors who journeyed with them. Confirmees, we pray that your “joy would be complete” and that you will “bear much fruit” (Jn. 15:8,11).
